Commission: Dueling Dreamkeepers by SuperflatPsychosis Commission: Dueling Dreamkeepers by SuperflatPsychosis
This was a set of sketch commissions for ezioauditore97, who wanted Bast and Vi drawn as if they were in a 2D fighting game. There are a few different poses here: Victories, Losses, Standard Attacks...you know, the basics!

This was also a good opportunity to break out the pencils - I haven't done too many traditional sketches lately.

Bast and Vi? I think it could work, but they're on the same side!

I know, I'm mean as a training to both of them, not a killing fight or something like that.

I see! In that case, definitely. That'd be a crazy fight, I think they're both pretty brutal ^^

yes, especially because they tecnically contro two of the 4 elements of the naturee; the Wind and the Heat.

Now that you mention it, I wonder if anyone's drawn them as Avatar characters yet. Bast as Prince Zuko seems like an obvious Halloween contest entry!

I'm interested to see how much more empathy he garners throughout the GNS too. It seems like he had it really rough as a child,so maybe he'll open up and we'll have a sweet moment? Hopefully!

You know regarding characters you've been a DK fan for a long time which is really cool so I am curious;Whom is your favorite character out of the loveable cast?

Somebody just needs to try and understand him and I'm sure that will come in good time.I did like seeing him alone(Before O'Naicul tried having a taste of a toasty gangster boy and he was running for dear life!) especially with some of those endearing expressions that show him for what he is;An erstwhile angsty teenager trying to find his way in a cruel world.I'd really love to draw him sometime as though he was exploring an unknown area and was part uncertain and wary;That would fit him really well.That having been said his rivalry with Mace is quite amusing and certainly it's a bit amusing seeing him get in over his head thinking he's better particularly with his inferior sense of guile and then having it blow up in his face when he puts 2 and 2 together!

I can easily see Vi overpowering everyone else in this fictitious fighting game. Badass indeed.

Pouty Bast got a laugh out of me while I was drawing him : D

I absolutely love the way you draw the DreamKeepers. They're so much fluid motion depicted with the use of curves and bends. The cartoon-y style of them is just stunning, especially the paws. I've always enjoyed how you drew them in that they are usually never bulbous but either completely rounded or triangular. Me personally, find it more appealing done this way, on how it creates a natural and geometric look so smoothly. This was done with pencil?!. Oh my! A few questions are rumbling through my mind though. How long did it take to sketch each character? What kind of utensils did you use, I must know ;-; (brand names would be nice)? And who is your favorite DreamKeeper? (You can have more than one, but try to limit yourself to at least 4).

Gosh, you're too kind!!! ;o;

Dave seems to render his characters so effortlessly - believe it or not, some of these took quite a long time! That running Vi...one hour...those legs...

I did get faster as I warmed up, though. The last sketch I drew was Pouty Bast and he only took about 15 minutes, I believe? Somewhere around there.

As for utensils, my pencil of choice is a broken mechanical pencil that I really should throw out but can't bring myself to. The specific brand is a Paper Mate Clickster - at least, that's what's printed on the side. It looks exactly like these ones...albeit broken! I'd recommend using a soft lead, since they give you those nice, dark lines. The paper I drew on was just regular printer paper, nothing fancy.

Favorite Dreamkeeper? That is so not fair. I love every character (even Randy and Tinsel), but if you must know:

1. Namah
2. Lilith
3. Harmony
4. Triffany

These are just my favorites right now, though! They're bound to flip around at least fifty times within the next month.

Who're your favorites? :3

Very awesome work on this set!I certainly hope to display them properly.All of the poses and expressions were well done on your part though in finality I think Bast's fighting pose looks the best and all of the sketches are charming.I must say that while we haven't got to know Bast too well as of yet you nailed Viriathius' spunk down rather nicely (Competent,layered,and quirky female characters for the win!)and Bast's smile and temper tantrum complement each other all too well. XD

Cannot wait to see how they look with the prompts and avatars!

On a bit of a sidenote of these which was the funnest to bring to wonderous cartoony life for you?

Thanks, Ezio - I'm glad the sketches are all to your liking. A few of them are off-center, but I hope that doesn't affect your enjoyment of the commission! In my opinion, Bast's standard attack turned out the best, but the most fun for me to draw was the pouty child up there in the corner. His face is too precious.

Vi certainly knows how to put up a fight! Just imagine how deadly she'd be with her power activated...

Haha yes, I've got to get started on those! ^^;

Hardly a problem!As for them being off center;Poses like that can fluctuate a lot and it's actually fitting seeing as characters fly all around the arena in a fighting game in order to dodge a little more effectively.Bast's pouty face was too awesome indeed;Love how you referred to him as "pouty child" as well.He also made a similar face in Vol.3 after he gets Grunned and that scenario is a winner for funny drawing ideas seeing how macho he is otherwise.

Vi is a such a fluid fighter;It's indeed going to be deadly if her power complements that aspect of her character in which case I can see there being a lot of dead hellspawn by her hands.

Please do take you time and have fun while you're at it!

Ezio wanted Bast "looking pleasant" for his victory pose, so I got him to smile for the camera.

Let's just hope I didn't break his face...
